Gluten FreeLow Carb
These halloumi fries are coated with a variety of spices and make a delicious side or appetiser dish. Almond flour is used to coat them, making them low carb and gluten free.
For the coating on these halloumi fries I used almond flour, but you could also use coconut flour. I tried a couple with coconut flour which worked out okay, but I preferred the almond flour ones. It gives a crispier coating. They are best served immediately after cooking. You can zap them in the microwave if any are leftover but they will become a bit soft.

For the spices I looked to one of my Cajun spiced recipes and used a few of them which I like. You could change the spices to your own taste and have a play around with the flavourings. As the Halloumi is salty, I would not recommend you add any salt to the mixture.
I pan fried these delicious Halloumi fries opposed to deep frying them to keep them healthy. Plus, I don’t possess a deep fryer. Never have and never will. There is something satisfying about frying up a batch of cheese and thinking to yourself, “the joy of a low carb lifestyle”.

Halloumi Fries
You could oven bake these, but I prefer them pan fried for extra crunch. If you want your halloumi fries baked, I would suggest that you line a baking tray with parchment paper and put the tray in the oven for about 5 minutes before use to heat it up. Lightly spray the halloumi fries with oil before baking to help give them a crispy texture and turn over half way through cooking. With another spray of oil.

Halloumi is a rare sight in our supermarkets here and I’ve only seen it in one of the main branches. When it’s in stock, you can get a little crazy purchasing packets of it, with the usual island fear of it not being available again for a while. I once saw a woman shopping with her trolley full of Halloumi cheese. She had purchased every packet. I wanted to invite myself to hers as it looked like she was going to cook something delicious. Especially as she had stocked up on wine!

These halloumi fries are delicious and one of my favourite foods to eat. I happily munched on these for lunch and find them quite filling. I served mine with an avocado dip and mayonnaise. A dip goes well with them and I would recommend you have something on the side to dip them in.
The Chief Taster dined well the night I made the video for these Halloumi Fries! He was served a plate of spicy chicken strips and halloumi fries and ate them in record speed. At one point I had to interject and remind him that he was eating at home, not the work canteen with the chaps from the workshop. Such is the lure of fried cheese and chicken it seems.

Ingredients
- 9 oz Halloumi
- 3 Tablespoons Almond Flour
- ½ teaspoon Oregano
- ½ teaspoon Thyme
- 1 tablespoon Paprika
- ¼ teaspoon Cayenne pepper
- 3-4 tablespoons Olive oil
Instructions
In a bowl mix the almond flour with the spices.
Remove the Halloumi cheese from the packet and DON’T dry it. You need it slightly moist.
Cut the Halloumi cheese in half lengthwise (down the middle, some cheeses will have a natural crease).
Cut each slice into four strips (or more if you want the fries thinner).
Dip each Halloumi strip into the spiced flour and ensure that it is covered well. The moisture of the cheese should ensure that the flour sticks to it.
Heat the oil on a medium heat in a frying pan.
Fry the Halloumi strips on all sides, turning over when slightly crispy.
Eat and enjoy!

If you want to make these in the air fryer how would you work the olive oil in the recipe ? Since it’s not frying in a pan ?
