When do you evolve Pokemon that evolve via evolution stone? (2024)

I've always wondered what other people do with these Pokemon. I evolve them whenever they learn their last "good move" in that form. I've seen others evolve them right away. What do you do?

When they learn a move thats good then I'll generally evolve them with a stone when they've learned that move unless its an Eeveelution, cause they learn moves of their type when they evolve.

If I'm going to use the Pokémon in my party I would train the original Pokémon until it learn the moves which I want to keep in its moveset and then I would evolve it.

It depends on the Pokemon, really. In most cases, I wait until the Pokemon learns the preferred moves. But in other cases, such as the Eeveelutions, I evolve them right away because of the moves they can learn after evolving.

With the exception of Eevee, I don't evolve Pokemon with an Evolution Stone until they have learned the moves that I want them to learn, that they can't learn as their evolved form.

If I haven't seen a list of the Pokemon's level up moves yet, I evolve them as soon as I'm happy with their moveset. I get impatient and want a stronger Pokemon as soon as possible. Once I do know the level up moves, I train the Pokemon until they learn everything I want.

I wait till they learn the last preferred move. There are pokemons like Ninetales that don't learn anything upon evolving, so it's best to fully teach everything before using the stone

The very best thing to do is to train up two of the same pokemon (a male and a female) to the levels where they learn the moves you want, then breed them to get a lv1 baby with the desired moveset, then use the stone so that you get the moves and the higher stats.
Unless you're talking about Eevees.

I tend to just wait until they've got the move I want them to (Ninetales for example), if they don't have any other moves after evolving. With Eevee, however, I just evolve them right off the bat, personally (if possible).

I also wait until they've got all the moves I want on them (got my Pansear to level 40-whatever for Crunch, for example), or at least some good moves if I don't care enough to look up their movesets. Gen V's reusable TMs make it easier to evolve Pokemon sooner and still give them decent movesets, so that's also a factor.

I typically don't evolve anyone with a stone unless I'm just using it to fill in the Pokédex (in which case I evolve it as soon as I get the stone), or if I really like the evolution (in which case I'd need to think about it, as it really depends. Some Pokémon learn moves that their evolution cannot learn so evolving is not favourable (unless the evolution learns an even better move by then)... other Pokémon learn moves only in their evolved state (in which case I evolve them right away), and others who don't have any particular move then I just evolve right away).

I usually evolve them when they have learned the required moves of their pre-evolution, but sometimes in certain cases I evolve them straight away because I know I can TM the moves they need.

Whenever they learn the moves I think they need to know.

Once they've acquired any moves I want for them to have that are exclusive to their previous stages, I'll go ahead and evolve them.

I evolve them immediately, as by the time you get the stone, they've already learned all the good moves. *cough*Togetic/Mincinno*cough*
