Mrs. Upton was born Oct. 5, 1921, at Guilford College, a daughter of Levi Colon and Amanda Etta Edmonds Hester. She had been a resident of High Point most of her life, and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. and the Elks Club.

Emory was born Nov. 20, 1914, in Stokes County to Charlie Hiram and Nannie Florence Gann Joyce, one of nine children.

He graduated from Madison High School, Class of 1932, and went to work shortly thereafter at Washington Mills Company in Mayodan. He remained a faithful employee with that company for 45 years until his retirement in 1978. At the time of his retirement, he held the position of Superintendent of Finishing. From 1946, he also held the position of State Farm Insurance agent, first on a part time basis, and then full time after his retirement from Washington Mills. He retired from State Farm in 1988, after 42 years of service with that company.

Emory was a faithful member of Mayodan Moravian Church and was Superintendent of Sunday School for 25 years. He also served on the Board of Elders and the Board of Trustees, sang in the choir for a number of years, and was active and instrumental in the building of the Christian Education building. He held numerous positions in civic organizations and served a term as Town Councilman in Mayodan. He was a 32 Degree Mason. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Gunn; brothers, Dr.

Charles W. Joyce, Espie M. Joyce, Geoffrey R. Joyce, Howell W. Joyce, and Lowell M.

Joyce. As a young girl, Fay had a radio program of popular music and also sang in church choirs in the Greensboro area, an activity she continued over the years in Cleveland, Alexandria, and Miami.

After retirement from the Fort Worth, Texas Public Library and moving to Virginia, she was a volunteer at the Rockbridge Library. Surviving are her husband, Paul L.
