As the husband of Miranda Bailey and a former resident at Grey Sloan Memorial, Station 19‘s Ben Warren appears on Grey’s Anatomy more than any other character. With the fire fighter drama now over, fans are curious if Jason George will return to the show. Keep reading to find out if Ben Warren is coming back to Grey’s Anatomy.

Ben Warren (played by Jason George) was first introduced during Season 6 of Grey’s Anatomy as an attending anesthesiologist who transferred from Mercy West Medical Center when it merged with Seattle Grace. He went on to become a surgical resident at Grey Sloan Memorial and eventually got married toDr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson). He left the show in Season 14 after deciding that he was unhappy with surgery and wanted to become a firefighter. Ben has been a staple on Grey’s Anatomy‘s hit spin-off series Station 19 ever since, and he frequently appears on both shows during crossover episodes.

In December 2023, news broke that Station 19 would be ending with the upcoming Season 7. As George and the other cast members complete their final season, fans are wondering if Warren will continue to appear on Grey’s Anatomy as Bailey’s husband or if he would even come back full time. We have all the details below.

Is Ben Warren coming back to Grey’s Anatomy? It’s certainly possible! In addition to Bailey, Ben has long-standing friendships with several doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial, so there’s plenty of ways he could stay in the Grey’s Anatomy/Station 19 universe even after the firefighter drama ends.

While speaking to Deadline, new showrunner Meg Marinis discussed the character’s future and the possibility of his return to Grey’s Anatomy as a series regular. “I don’t want to answer that because I don’t want to answer anything aboutStation 19 that I’m not only fully aware of,” she said, adding of Ben and Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato): “How they end their stories will help me determine whether or not I will be seeing those characters on Grey’s.”

George, who has played Ben since Season 1 of Station 19, also told The Hollywood Reporter ahead of Station 19‘s series finale that he is very much open to returning to Grey’s Anatomy. “I like to think that there’s still a Ben-Bailey, or Benley, story to tell,” he said. He continued, “I think that’s a possibility. There may be conversations.”

Carina is an attending OB/GYN who started as a recurring character on Grey’s Anatomy before switching over to Station 19 in Season 3; she was later promoted to a series regular in Season 4. She is married to former Station 19 captain Maya Bishop (played by Danielle Savre).

While the executive couldn’t share if Ben and Carina will for sure join the show again, she did promise that Ben will cross over during Station 19‘s final season. “What I can tell you is that the Bailey and Ben relationship will continue to cross over. Those two actors love crossing over and it’s very important to them that what they do over here and what they do over there, that it’s one symbiotic thing,” she said. She added of Carina: “We’ll definitely see [her] on Grey’sat one point.”

Station 19 star Jaina Lee Ortiz, who plays Andrea “Andy” Herrera, previously teased a “crazy crossover towards the end” of the season. “I have a feeling there’s going to be a major crossover towards the end of the season. And this character has never visitedGrey’s Anatomy in this way,” she told TV Insider.Of the crossover episode in question, Marinis hinted: “We like to share catastrophes, that’s what I’m saying.” This information makes us wonder if perhaps a Station 19 character will be killed off or require life-saving medical care from the doctor’s at GSM. The show has killed off major characters before (rip Dean) and the series finale is certainly cause for a dramatic plot twist, so it’s possible.

While we don’t know for sure who Ortiz is referring to is, Ben and Carina are most likely in the clear since they might have a future on Grey’s Anatomy. Carina’s return to the series could even leave the door open for some cameos from Maya!

Grey’s Anatomy premieres on ABC on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 9/8c and streams on Hulu.
