How to Tame a Boar in Valheim

Boars are some of the first wild animals you'll come across when you begin playing Valheim. They are located in the Meadows biome, and can generally be found roaming alone or in small groups.

In order to tame a boar, you'll need to build a small enclosure and lure it in with some food. Boars like eating berries (both raspberries and blueberries), mushrooms, and carrots. Berries and mushrooms are abundant in the Meadows, so they are easy to stock up on.

If you're lucky, you may stumble across a broken enclosure that naturally has boars roaming around it. You can repair this and finish building it, or make your own enclosure by constructing a pen out of Roundpole fence.

Make sure to leave a small opening in the fence and drop some food inside. Lure the boar inside the pen and quickly exit the enclosure while closing the gap you left open.

Wait patiently for the boar to calm down, and after a few moments it will begin eating the food you left for it. Once you see yellow hearts above its head, that means the boar is happy and will begin the taming process.

You can check on the progress by hovering your mouse over the boar. You'll see a percentage of how tame the boar is, as well as its current status. If it says acclimatizing, that means it's warming up to its new environment.

Leave the boar alone and make sure it has plenty of food and eventually it will become tame. Once it's tame, you can safely enter the pen and spend some time with your new animal friend! And yes, you can pet the boar.

How to Tame a Wolf in Valheim

Wolves are ferocious creatures found in the Mountain biome. Not only will you need proper gear or mead to protect you against the cold, you'll need to be able to defend yourself if you're looking to tame these beasts.

Once you spot a wolf that you'd like to befriend, you'll need to construct a temporary pen for it. Try to do this without being spotted, as wolves will begin attacking you immediately, gnashing at you with their sharp fangs and claws. These animals are extremely fast and strong, and can make quick work of your Viking if you're not careful.

It's recommended to build your enclosure using Stakewall as it's more durable than the Roundpole fence. Once the wolves are enclosed, they will begin attacking the walls out of anger, so you need something that can withstand that. Leave an opening for now, as you'll need to get the wolf inside before closing it.

Next, you'll need to lure the wolf into your pen. Bring some raw meat with you and throw some into the enclosure. Find the nearby wolf and get its attention while leading it inside, or make a small trail of raw meat that leads into the enclosure.

Once the wolf is inside, seal the enclosure and back away. Wolves are easily frightened, and will begin attacking the walls if you're too close. It helps to crouch when you're nearby as you're harder to detect.

After some time, the wolf will calm down and begin eating the raw meat. You'll see small yellow hearts floating up above its head indicating that it's happy.

Taming the wolf takes time, and you'll need to keep refilling the raw meat periodically. Make sure to repair the walls, too, as they can become damaged over time and potentially break, setting your soon-to-be friend free.

An easy way to do this is to build a small platform above a set of stairs, allowing you to toss meat in and easily check up on your furry friend. You can see the taming progress (indicated as a percentage) by hovering over the wolf.

Once the taming reaches 100%, you'll have yourself a new best friend! You can check the status of your wolf by hovering over it. You'll need to feed it regularly to keep it happy.

You can also choose to pet the wolf which will make it begin following you. And yes, that means into battle. Your new wolf friend will actually fight enemies for you. But, make sure to protect it as taming a new one isn't easy!

How to Tame a Lox in Valheim

Lox are large wild creatures found in the Plains biome. These giant beasts are large and powerful and will pose a challenge if you chose to tame them.

There are a couple ways to tame a Lox. First, you can sneak up on them and throw down some barley or cloudberries, as this is the food they prefer.

You can get surprisingly close to the Lox without alerting them to your presence, but if they become frightened you'll want to run. These beasts can take you out in a single blow if you're not prepared.

After some time, the Lox will begin eating the food you've left it and slowly start becoming tame. Small yellow hearts will begin radiating from the Lox, letting you know that it's happy. You'll need to constantly resupply the food to keep it happy to ensure it will reach 100% friendliness.

This process can take multiple in-game days, so be patient. You can check the status of your Lox by hovering your mouse over it. You'll see a percentage of how tame your beast is, as well as the status. Once it reaches 100%, you'll be able to successfully pet the animal without fear of being mauled.

Alternatively, you can create a pen for it, similar to the boar or wolf. Since Lox are more powerful, you'll need to build the enclosure out of stone. Any other material will easily be destroyed by the creature. Make sure to leave an opening for the Lox to get in (and possibly you, out).

Drop some cloudberries or barley in the pen and wait for the Lox to enter. You can also have the beast chase you into the pen, but this is significantly more dangerous. These creatures are slow (and a bit on the less-intelligent side, it seems), so getting them to cooperate may take some patience.

Once you've successfully captured the Lox, close the pen and make sure there's ample food inside to keep it fed. The Lox will likely be angry, so make sure to back away from it to ensure it's not being provoked. Eventually, the Lox will calm down and begin to acclimatize to its new surroundings.

After the tameness meter reaches 100%, you'll be able to reenter the pen and pet your new Lox. Make sure to continue feeding it to ensure it remains happy.

Unfortunately, Lox cannot currently mate. So, no matter how many you manage to domesticate, they will never reproduce.
